SSD disk drives or solid state disk drives are a new breed of storage medium that
you might not realize are already around you. Mostly common in new, high end laptops you can
also increasingly find them in servers as their speed has made them
quite popular for hosting large and busy database servers.
If your SSD suffers damage then things might get serious. When a mechanical hard
drive crashes, most of the time you've probably gotten warnings from
it's S.M.A.R.T. diagnostic firmware already. You then have ample opportunity to back up any data considered critical. With an SSD drive you don't get that much time to play with. Even so, if your SSD drive is no
longer readable there's still hope. Read on.
